BMT Recognises the Importance of Quality REACH Only Representatives

For a non-EU organisation affected by REACH, appointing the right Only Representative (OR) is a big decision, affecting the future of their chemical market in Europe. According to the REACH Regulation (Article 8(2)), the OR must have sufficient background in the practical handling of substances and the information related to them.
The relationship between a non-EU chemical organisation and their OR has the potential to be indefinite, as the OR is the legal entity responsible for the registration. This means that the two parties must work in harmony for the foreseeable future to ensure that REACH registration is completed, and then kept up to date as the non-EU organisations European market changes.
BMT is therefore proud to announce the formation of the Only Representative Organisation (ORO), of which BMT is a founding member.
ORO is a newly formed professional body, seeking to set quality standards for companies that provide REACH OR Services to non-EU chemical manufacturers.
The objectives of ORO include:
- To set up minimum quality standards for OR service providers
- Ensure that non-EU chemical organisations are presented with the choice of superior OR service providers
- To develop a common understanding of REACH for non-EU manufacturers
- To represent OR's and industry, and cooperate with regulators
As founding members of ORO, BMT strongly believe that non-EU chemical manufacturers should have access to independently audited OR service providers meeting stringent quality requirements.
Over the coming months BMT will be working with other founding members of ORO to set high quality standards among the OR service provider market, with input from trade organisations and stakeholders.
